MARIA FERNANDA RODRIGUEZ GALVAN

Mexican top climber and rock climbing instructor

Maria is the first Mexican woman climber to climb 5.14 sport climb and V10 difficulty boulder. She became eight time national bouldering champion. Hopefully, this will open the door for other women in Mexico to do this. Mexico is a country rich with rock climbing resources. That's why she spends her time teaching others as a rock climbing instructor.

Birthday: April 14, 1988
Home town: Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico
Current home: Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico
Favorite MAXIM rope: Pinaccle Bi-pattern 80 m

“Climbing is a way of life, it is a way to enjoy and connect with inner nature. If someone has a passion in life, lives for that passion, does everything that is necessary so that each day becomes an opportunity. The soul of a climber is always in constant battle, because the fight comes from within, it is fought and trained from the heart.”

Get to know Maria ...

Tell us how and when you climbed the climb?
I started climbing when I was 15 years old, one day on the weekend my sister invited me to walk on the rocky mountain, which we call hill, that day we saw very few climbers, I was impressed and admired to see people climbing, that day my life changed completely, everything began to shine. Climbing was my escape from the society in which I lived, an escape to freedom to the simplicity and beauty of living in nature.

What is the soundtrack of your life (favorite song)?
My favorite song is Learning to Fly  Pink Floyd

Do you have any peculiar eating habits?
Yes, I have a peculiar eating habit, my diet is very simple, all the fruits, all the vegetables, as raw as possible, not dairy, not eggs, I only allow myself to eat an animal; the tuna. Actually, as what my body needs only, I avoid processed things.

If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?
If I could choose a super power, without a doubt my choice would be to fly, to be able to fly wherever I wanted.

What was your favorite climbing adventure?
My favorite adventure within the sports field was to have participated in the project #prettystrongfilm. It was a dream come true for me to have met and climbed with one of my favorite climbers Daila Ojeda and Colette Mac, I am very grateful for this opportunity in my life, it was a unforgetable experience.
